Engineered to Cool - Sleek Industrial-Grade Wearable Personal Cooler

The concept of personal cooling takes a revolutionary turn with the advent of the wearable ARC Cooler. This Red Dot Award: Product Design 2023 winner presents a portable and customizable cooling solution in a robust form capable of bringing long-lasting immersive 360-degree cooling that can help individuals combat heat and elevate comfort.

At its core, the ARC Cooler harnesses our proprietary Thermo-FloTM Cooling Technology to create a controlled microenvironment around the user. Thermo-FloTM Technology allows efficient and prolonged cooling without the constraints of traditional cooling methods resulting in unprecedented cooling performance.

Read on to explore the technology behind our latest innovation.

Back Cooling

Our cooling plate is at least 3-5 times more thermally conductive than metal, and can continuously cool a large area by at least 8°C, instantly allowing the user to feel cooler.

Front Cooling

Turbocharged blowers at the front targets heat relieving areas like the neck and face, accelerating the cooling rate of sweat by 2-3 times.

The Foundation: Solid-State Cooling

Solid-state cooling uses solid-state materials, typically thermoelectric materials, to achieve cooling without the use of refrigerants or moving parts. It is compact, quiet, and can be used for localized heating or cooling. Solid-state cooling is commonly used in applications where traditional refrigeration systems are not suitable, such as in electronics or medical equipment

A thermoelectric cooling device like the ARC Cooler makes use of the Peltier effect – a thermoelectric phenomenon that is used in solid-state cooling. When an electrical current is Embed short video clip/gif passed through a thermoelectric material, the Peltier effect causes one side of the material to become hot and the other side to become cold.

The ARC Cooler has a cooling system that includes several parts: finned heat sinks, fans, and a Peltier module. When the Peltier module is powered on, it creates a temperature difference between its two sides. The cold side of the Peltier comes into contact with a conductive cooling plate, while the hot side comes into contact with a finned sink. The heat is then removed through forced convection, which means that a fan blows air over the finned heat sink to help remove the heat.

Innovation: Thermo-FloTM Cooling Tech

Thermo-FloTM Cooling Tech is our cutting-edge proprietary cooling technology that has been engineered to overcome the known limitations of Peltier technology. While Peltier modules are capable of reducing the contact surface temperature quickly, they require an effective heat dissipation mechanism to be truly efficient. Thermo-FloTM cooling mechanism in the ARC Cooler achieves this by drawing heat away from the heat source efficiently, resulting in a cooler surface temperature. This is made possible by optimizing the airflow through the device’s intake along with a careful selection of the heat sink and an axial fan delivering forced convection.

If not properly optimised, Peltier modules can consume a lot of power. To address this issue, ARC made software improvements during the development phase to improve cooling sensation while reducing power consumption. User testing was carried out to determine a comfortable surface temperature range, and power levels were adjusted to provide the optimal amount of cooling energy while extending the runtime of the ARC Cooler.

Behind the Developmental Process

Throughout the engineering development process of the ARC Cooler, we refined several design features based on user feedback. One such refinement is the inclusion of the lightweight aluminium heat sink with a large finned surface area. This inclusion allows the device to maximize the efficiency of its heat dissipation mechanism while minimizing additional bulk that may make long-term wear uncomfortable.

The Peltier module has also been upgraded to reduce power consumption in line with improving cooling efficacy. This has resulted in an extended minimum runtime of 240 minutes. New axial fans have also been installed to increase cooling performance while decreasing noise levels, providing the user with a more comfortable experience.

Since the back module is based on contact cooling, the back plate is expanded to 6 times larger from ARC X. Furthermore, to accommodate different user preferences, a modular and 3-way adjustable fan can be attached to the main cooling module to enhance the cooling experience.

The ARC Cooler comes with a pair of easily adjustable shoulder straps to fit a variety of body types and increase stability while performing dynamic motions. Additionally, the back module has fast charging capabilities which allows for quick resuscitation during emergencies so you would not be left in the heat.

Revolutionising the Experience of Thermal Comfort

By harnessing our engineering capabilities, innovative technologies, and user-centric design, we are able to offer users a new cooling option which combines unique aspects of traditional cooling methods without the limitations in the ARC Cooler. The birth of the ARC Cooler is a significant step in our resolve to providing safe, efficient, and untethered personal cooling that can be seamlessly integrated into our daily lives
